Mory Traore is a passionate African Dance teacher,dancer, choreographer and percussionist. Born and raised as a performer in The Republic of Guinea, he is a custodian of the rich West African tradition of percussion and dance. From the age of 8 years old Mory has been training and performing as a lead dancer of ballet Matam and also as a percussionist for the Matam percussion ensemble. He was trained under the renowned director and choreographer Mr Sekouba Camara (former artistic director of Ballet Djoliba and Ballets Africains). Ballet Matam is internationally renowned and has received many dance students from Europe, America and Japan. He participated in a project run by The Gwanda Association of Marseille, co-coordinating a two week dance and cultural tour for French students travelling to Guinea. In 2005 Mory was selected as one of the top dancers in the Ballet Matam (Guinea) and travelled to Toulouse, France to run intensive workshops and performances at the multi-cultural festival "Toucouleur".
In 2005 Mory received his Diploma of Dance and Choreography from the Tabala Alliance Performing Arts College, Guinea,Conakry.
 
Since arriving in Australia in late 2006, Mory has quickly gained recognition as one of Australia's most talented West African dancers. Mory worked intensively with company's such as Drum Beats, Team Beat, Drum Cafe and Inrhythm specialising in corporate team building, educational programs and performances for festivals.

He has worked extensively with African artists and groups around Australia including a nationwide tour in 2007 with Melbourne-based artist Jali Buba Kuyateh and the group "Diyaa Looloo". He recently performed with the internationally acclaimed Kora player Toumani Diabate at the Sydney Opera House. Mory has also participated in several cross-cultural projects.

Over the months of June and July 2010, Mory performed at Darling Harbour in Sydney with the company Dance Central, in celebration of the Soccer World Cup.
 
Mory has just completed his second tour of Australia with the group Mandinka Sounds. Their explosive performances impressed audiences throughout Australia from remote towns such as Tennant Creek and Margaret River to the major cities throughout the country. 

Mory is a passionate, patient and experienced teacher.  He has taught regular dance classes in Sydney and has run several intensive workshops around Australia including visits to Melbourne, Newcastle, Peats Ridge Festival and The Blue Mountains.

Mory is now based in Canberra, ACT, and holds regular weekly dance classes.
